Omaha Hi-Low: Basic Outline
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players can get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards.
