Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha hi lo begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in almost all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.
While it seems complicated at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing range of betting options and because you have numerous players battling for the high, along with several battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha/8.
